Sea on the southeastern coast of Spain, it is obvious that
the province's name derives from the ancient Arabic word for "The Mirror of
the Sea." The capital of Almera is located in the city. The city was
founded in 955 AD by Arab leaders.
Almeria was once an autonomous state, which was rich in the silk trade, but
over the years was established under Spanish rule. The discovery of iron
mines in the region have led to its importance in the 18th century. Almeria
set as a prosperous region under Spanish rule until the Spanish Civil War,
when the region was under a severe bombardment of the German air and navy,
and was one of the last regions of Spain go to the national government,
General Franco. Since the mid-20th century, Almeria flourished again because
of extensive tourism and agriculture. With over 300 sunny days a year,
Almeria has one of the driest climates and sunny in continental Europe,
offers an annual average temperature of 19 C.
Almeria is well connected by highway-7 of the Mediterranean, and the
Spanish-92 route, which connects to the rest of the region of Andalusia.
Almeria Port handles shipping companies in the North African coast, and
there are many opportunities for the harbor cruise in the marina, so keep
that in mind. Almeria International Airport is the fourth largest airport in
the region of Andalusia. The airport is accessible by highway-7, which is
derived from AT-17 dual carriageway. Airport serves many European
destinations through a number of practitioners.
What to see and do in Almeria
Visit the Alcazaba - The Alcazaba is a fortified structure that was created
in the tenth century as a defensive fortification of the city and was built
by the Moorish inhabitants. There are three lines of walls and keep the
preserved part of the castle. Muslim art and structures are fascinating to
watch. The ruins of the castle of San Cristobal is situated near the
Alcazaba and connected by a line of walls.
Discover the beautiful beaches of the Costa Almeria - Cabo de Gata, El
Lanon, El Monsul, El Playazo, Garrucha and the beach in Roquetas de Mar are
some of the most popular beaches of Almeria.
Visit the Cathedral of Almeria - Almeria Cathedral was originally built in
the style of a fortress, which seeks to protect and defend against the
pirates of the Mediterranean. There was once a mosque site was changed to
the church. It was destroyed by an earthquake, and 1522. Restored the honor
of the 16 th century and built in Renaissance style.
Visit the gift - a wonderful group of houses is carved on the walls of solid
rock.
Take a trip to the Natural Park of Cabo de Gata - and enjoy the wild beauty
of the beaches and the fascinating diversity of nightlife. The park is of
volcanic origin.
Visit the resort of Mojacar - Mojacar is a wonderful old fortress stands on
a solid rock structure in order to clean the beaches and the Mediterranean.
Mojcar is probably now the largest resort on the coast of Almeria, but has
not lost its charm - the narrow streets of the city are still white. The
Moorish fortress called the arcs of Luciana is a must is a trip to the
beaches of Playa de los Genoveses and Monsul beach.
Tourist activities to enjoy - There are so many things to see and do in
Almeria with a lot of dive tourism, golf, horse riding, water sports, theme
parks and much more. The area offers wonderful food (with specialty tapas)
and wine! You will be spoiled for choice with what to do in Almeria!
Enjoy a museum of relics of Almeria - This fascinating museums are relics of
the region from prehistory to the Moorish occupation.
Enjoy the landscape of Almeria - Almeria has the only desert in Europe. The
landscape of the region is very diverse, from beach areas to mountainous
regions, cities, hills covered with cactus. Because of its location, the
region has a prestigious film due to the creation of many Hollywood movies
Spaghetti Western in the region, with the filming of "Lawrence of Arabia".
Almeria is: Not many people know who performed the Beatle John Lennon wrote
the wonderful "Strawberry Fields Forever," while World War II shooting a
film in Almera in 1966! Today there is a monument to the talent of
Liverpool plays his guitar on the "Rambla" in the city of Almeria.
If you enjoy a mix of city and beach, there are few better choices than
Almeria. Located in the heart of Andalucia, on the coast, enjoys a warmer
and drier interest in Spain and cultural city in the long stretch of nearby
beach, which has much to offer visitors. I have a lot of transport from
Almeria airport and back, and I rarely heard a bad word said against the
city! I also was informed and explore some of the highlights of the city -
here are some you should not miss the next time you're in Almera.
Tourist attractions of the city and surrounding areas
The highlight of Almeria is most striking is the Alcazaba, a Moorish
fortress on a cliff overlooking the magnificent city, and is the second
largest. The fortress is a remnant of the Moorish heritage Almeria, as the
city's name in Arabic means "mirror" as a "mirror of the sea."
But it is not surprising Almeria once. The imposition of the Catholic
cathedral, which dates from the 16th century, is an obvious need. The old
town with its traditional market and its winding streets is always a big hit
with visitors, and his version of La Rambla can not be as big or as famous
as almeria, but it is a great place to stroll along and immediately a
sunny afternoon.
I also recommend paying a visit to the gypsy quarter, its unique cave
dwellings is really a strange sight to see, and you can get more information
on the history of mixed Almeria in the Archaeological Museum. The city has a
great story to tell - it was established as a Moorish fortress town, and his
time was conquered by the Christians attacked by Barbary pirates and bombed
by the Germans in the Spanish Civil War!
The picturesque town of Mojacar, near Almeria, is definitely worth visiting.
Mojacar has a long history spanning 4000 years and was inhabited by the
Phoenicians, Carthaginians, Romans, Greeks and Moors. It was during the
reign Moor he really started to bloom, an impressive castle was built and
the city walls were expanded and strengthened. However, there is a Muslim
city center in a Christian country has suffered many brutal incursions and I
am always ready to regale me with stories of tourists during the journey
from the airport of Almeria.
Mojacar is now home to over 17 km of sandy beaches and places of interest
include the Iglesia de Santa Maria, a 14 century fortress and the Old
Customs House, where visitors were imposed during the 18th century for the
pleasure of visiting the city. I want to make a tidy profit in my Almeria
airport transfers if this procedure was still in force today.
Beautiful kitchen
I am often asked to drive to the picturesque town of Roquetas to carry out
my Almera airport transfers and is very difficult not to stop the car and
run in one of the restaurants in the city of delicious seafood. Visitors
often ask me to recommend a local dish, and without fail, I always suggest
the specialty areas of lobster and rice. The city is known for its cuisine
and two archaic fishing traditions seems particularly appropriate to
recommend a seafood platter
Enjoy the sun
Every time I drive people from the airport to the city of Almeria, I am
always sure to mention that the main beach of the city is almost entirely
nude. For some people, it will be an added attraction in Almeria - for
others, it will be a rather embarrassing, they prefer to avoid! This is a
beautiful beach (very nice people on it!), But if you prefer to tan more
conservatively, a visit to one of the stations nearby (see nearby
attractions) would be ideal.
However, if you do not mind the idea of baring all, then resort of Vera
Playa is for you. Vera Playa is the world's most famous nudist resort, and
is home to more than 2,000 homes for nudists and naturists to a four-star
hotel. Even the streets of Vera Playa is no clothes-free zones, which can
take some getting used too!
Places of interest nearby
There is plenty to keep you busy in Almeria itself, but there are a lot of
rooms if you want to explore the surrounding areas. The Andalusian coast is
full of ideal destination, where the Aguadulce, Almerimar and Mojacar in the
east to the west. All of them are excellent options if you want to visit a
traditional beach resort in the city, many of my airport Almeria passengers
have chosen to combine a couple of days in the same city a break from the
coastal resorts. And if cities are more your thing, a vibrant and diverse
Granada is just hours away - you ask me well, and I could only give a
discount when I drive out there!
